Afterglow 2014 - Day 2 Sunday

There is always a lot to do around this joint. You just need to be willing to try it out even though you most certainly will fail. Kevin is an acclaimed skateboarder and he has been featured in numerous publications. Ok, so maybe he's just been featured on pookon.com, but that counts, right? Jenny Reck on a skateboard is like a small child trying to walk for the first time. You want them to succeed because you care for them, but you can't help but laugh when they fall down. But then you pick them up and give them the biggest hug.

When it isn't mutually agreeable to spend the majority of our time outdoors, we need to find something else to do so we don't just sit around on the couch like a bunch of goofs. Usually we turn to our imaginative minds to craft up an activity. When that doesn't work we take advantage of the multiple activities that Afterglow has to offer. The Rec Room has several games and activities to waste some time. Granted they are old school, but in the age of apps, social media, 3-D, hoola hoops, Zima and Pac man video games, who couldn't use a little old school fun? Brandon, Jenny, Kevin, Mom and I took turns playing team billiards. Who says that we don't know how to party?

This skateboard thing was a little weird. It was self propelling in the fact that you didn't have to push with your legs. It's hard to describe, but you can either gyrate your hips in a certain way to stay in motion. If that doesn't work then you just have to grab a hold of the pole and just spin around until you can't handle the rage anymore. That's more of a fitting solution to this problem. When that was over, Brandon and Jenny played some foosball and then we just kind of sat around in the Rec Room listening to the Brewers game on the radio. It wasn't the greatest day weather-wise so we just decided to make the best of it. Sometimes that means braving the environment and staying outdoors. Sometimes that means staying indoors and raging twice as hard. Look, I don't make the rules. I just try to play the game with the game with the rules I'm given. It's the only way that I know.

I've mentioned before that we have a mental checklist of "to do" items. It's ridiculous how many times we have forgotten to do these things in a given year. This time I wasn't going to allow Kevin and I to miss out on our annual game of behind the back pool. So please note on the record, that for at least one small moment in time at Afterglow 2014, I was cognoscente about the past, present and future.

Brandon will try anything 9 times. He told me that on the day that I first met him. So when I saw him get on that weird skateboard thing and fall over a few times, I knew that he still had a few more failures until he gave up. That's Brandon.

Old school games are the best. There's a shuffleboard court in the Rec Room. We Googled the rules and found out that the discs are called biscuits and the stick is called the tang. And that's how Kevin and I decided that our next band would be Biscuits & Tang.
