Afterglow 2012 - Day 1 Saturday

Every year we make promises that we forget to keep like going night swimming. All the sudden it is time to go home and we still have a pretty long "to do" list. But not this year. This year we decided to get it out of the way on the 1st night. Rage.

The campfire used to be a big meeting place for the entire resort after dark but now it seems like it is only us who goes there. I'm not complaining, it's just different. And with all due respect it is a lot more fun with people (family) who know how to rage.

Although Brian was the first one to pass out, Kevin did him one better by taking it to the 13th dimension by passing out on the ground. I don't know how he got so wasted but I'm pretty sure that whiskey was involved. Don't judge me but I lost the memories between where Kevin was grinning like an idiot and where he lies motionless on the ground. Curtis was concerned about his well being and went over to check on him, and ended up getting to know him a little better. That night they shared a connection, although Kevin didn't realize it.

While we were busy doing nothing Mom and Eddie engaged in a battle of wits and word recollection in a good old fashioned game of Scrabble. From what I know these games tend to be pretty high stakes so I kept my distance. No sense getting involved.

Brian and Kevin are quite smitten with each other, which is why they have made a promise to be life partners. It may sound a little gay but every one is a little gay these days. It's what keeps you happy. And everyone should be happy. It does a body good.

There's this odd time between sunset and campfire/raging on KK where we really don't know what to do. C0me to think about it, this is a really good time for a nap because you need to be ready to rally for the evening's rage. But since it was only the first night of Afterglow no one needed a nap quite yet. So we used this time for other things. Gary paged through the Red Book to see if there were any new rules since he was last here, Jenny laughed at something, Kevin looked cute and I looked bored. It was a good use of time.

I can't remember if I still had these sparklers from last year or if I made a stop at Harry's Fireworks, but I was glad to have them at my disposal. And from the looks of deep intense focus or joy on the faces of the McKissick boys, I'd say that they were quite amused to have them as well. After all, who doesn't love fireworks? And cheap ones at that? What is not to love? You light them and they sparkle!!

The fire was slowly dying at it was past 11:30pm, which meant that we were not allowed to put any more logs on the fire. Pete's rules. But that's ok. We didn't want to stick around here for too much longer anyway. It was time to rage. Rage on KK.

Last year Curtis didn't come up here until Tuesday night. This year he was up here Saturday. That is why we ended up raging so hard on the 1st night. No one was prepared for what happened up on KK that night, and this picture is only a hint of the adventure.

Brian's sweater wasn't strong enough to keep him awake so he collapsed into his hands and let the night conquer his kingdom. But one thing that can't be denied is that he was raging on KK right now. Raging has no definition. You just have to do it.

Raging on KK rarely ends well. Either we get way too drunk and stumble back to the cabins or we get too tired and pass out on the ground. Tonight was so good that both were probably going to happen. Kevin's face said that things were about to get wild.
