Iceman Celebration Day 2017

We went swimming for a bit and then came back to the hotel room to refill our cocktails and order a pizza. This time when we flipped through the channels, we fouind a good movie. And even though it was on one of the Spanish channels and I don't speak the language, I understood every single word of Dumb & Dumber, one of the greatest comedies of all time. This is because I've seen this movie more times than should be humanly possible and have grown up quoting it line for line with my cousins and good friends. So it amused me to hear Lloyd and Harry not sounding like Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels arguing over a briefcase in a scene I have seen time and time again, but never like this. Watching this in Spanish was one of the highlights of this year's Iceman Celebration Day.

Jenny had arranged for us to meet up with our friend Jason, who lives in Madison. We hung out at his house for a bit and then convinced him to join us a the Next Door Brewing Company, which is just a few blocks from his house. We had beers and we laughed. Cheers to me!

There's a reason why I never tell you people about my ICD plans ahead of time. As you now know, they are subject to change at any time. So for this part of the trip I let Jenny Reck call the shots. She has never led me in the wrong direction and she damn sure wouldn't do it today.

We walked back from the lake to Jason's apartment and ended up taking a route through the park. In that park was a polar bear that was more than willing to allow some humans to sit in his lap. Yeah, that's not weird at all. What was he even doing here anyway? Parks aren't the place for this lewd behavoir. Unless that's how they do it where he is from. I'm not one to judge a foreigner.

My favorite thing in the World is Hotel Breakfast, so I made sure that I wasn't too hungover in the morning to get it (like I sometimes do when I hotel rage). After that we hung out in the hotel room watching a Police Academy marathon until we had to check out. Since it was a Sunday and we had no plans, we figured we might as well stop in the Wisconsin Dells to see our Dad (seeing as it was just an hour drive due North). Since I picked up Jenny Reck from her house I had to drop her back off. And she lives just a few blocks from Mom's house, so this gave me a chance to also see her on my Celebration Day. Without my Parents, I wouldn't have one, so it was only fitting I got to see both of them today. Plus my Mom made me cupcakes, which was an added bonus. This wasn't the Celebration Day I had planned, but it ended up being a really really good day.

After sampling a few of the microbrews, they asked me what I wanted to do next. You know me - I always want to be near or in the water. Lucky for me Madison has several bodies of water, one of them being Lake Monona. So we walked to Hudson Park and I went knee deep into this fine body of water. I would have gone in further, but it wasn't that nice out (despite what it looks like). That's what I get for being born in May.

Jenny and Jason were brave enough to come with me down to the water's edge and take pictures, but they weren't brave enough to go in with me. I don't blame them. After all, I'm as crazy as a tube of glue and no one is dumb enough to walk in my footsteps. But they are better off that way. The World only needs one of me. More than one of me would result in multiple Iceman Celebration Days a year. We can't have that.

As I mentioned, we went swimming before dinner, which ended up being pizza from a place called Great Scott's. It was the closest pizza joint and ended up being viewed as a sign that I was meant to spend my Celebration Day in Mt. Horeb because you cannot make this up or plan it in advance. We waited the customary 30 minutes after dinner before going swimming again and we ended up closing down the pool. The rest of the night was nonsense, but I do know we watched Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in Spanish because I couldn't change the channel. ¿Quién es este Optimus Prime? ¿Un robot disfrazado? Sorry pal. I can't answer that question.

We couldn't stay in Madison forever. I'm sure that a couple of Politicians have tried it, but the people ultimetly decide their fate. My ony goal for this weekend was to hotel rage, which we could have done in Madison, but I wasn't ready to give up driivng as there was still some daylight left. The drive continued West until I felt like Googling "hotels" and we decided to go to the nearest one that was in our price range and had a good rating. This ended up being the Grandstay Hotel & Suites in Mount Horeb. This place looked a little too nice for us, but thankfully a credit card is all you need to gain entrance. We poured some cocktails, kicked up the volume on the air conditioner and flipped through the channels for a bad movie. Every time I hotel rage I watch a bad movie, and today it was The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, the 2008 sequel to the Brendan Fraser Mummy movies. I can't tell you what was going on in that movie. And quite frankly, I don't care. All that matters is rage.
