Iceman Celebration Day 2018 - The House on the Rock Inn

I've mentioned before that I don't share my plans for Iceman Celebration Day until it actually happens because things are always subject to change. Never was that more true than it was for Iceman Celebration Day 2017. The plans from that had to be delayed for a year, which brings us to this adventure. Now I can reveal what those plans were as Jenny and I traveled to Dodgeville/Spring Green for the weekend to go to The House on the Rock and hotel rage. I left Korben Dallas enough food to last him a few days, gave him the finger and then left him at home.

I had known from the website that there was a play area in the pool and I thought it would be dumb... but it ended up being the best thing ever. This probably had to do with the fact that there were no kids here (besides us) because kids ruin everything. You'll see things from the House attraction tomorrow, but this hotel really fit the theme in that it was old, a little rundown and kind of 80's nostalgic. I can see why grown up kids like us would enjoy this as it probably hadn't changed in 20+ years and made us think of our childhood. But there was only so much play we could engage in before the pool was shut down. But rest up children, for tomorrow would be a walk down memory lane.

My actual Celebration Day was on a Sunday, but I took off work today to celebrate Star Wars Day (May the Fourth be With You). I'm sure I watched a few of the Star Wars movies and dressed in appropriate attire. But when it got to be quittin' time for Jenny Reck, I had to go pick her up so that we could start our adventure. We planned to spend the whole day tomorrow at The House on the Rock, so we needed to drive there tonight. Dodgeville/Spring Green is only 2 hours away, but we didn't leave until 730pm it was dark well before we got there.

I had booked a weekend stay at The House on the Rock Inn. They had "stay and play" packages that included tickets to the attraction, so I figured that was the best deal. When I found out that it contained unusual artifacts and decoration (much like The House itself), I was even more excited to stay here. Outside the hotel there were some old timey cars. I'm pretty sure that they were replicas because the real things would probably be worth a whole lot more. Inside the hotel there was President Abraham Lincoln. I'm pretty sure that it was a replica because the real thing would probably be worth a whole lot more. I can't imagine that it was a true replica as it didn't have the beard and the stovepipe hat.

I don't know what you would call this type of design, but it looks like it borrowed a lot from different parts of the World and Cultures. There were things like models of ships and other maritime themed artifacts. And then there dragon fountains and window designs that looked like they were from the Ancient Oriental regions. Strangely, they all meshed together and gave it a uniquely weird atmosphere.

When we checked in I was over the moon to find out that the pool area was open late. So Jenny and I poured a couple of cocktails and put on our swimming gear. In the corner of the room there was a painting of some dolphins, which I flipped off. Smug bastards.

The first order of business was to do a cannonball in the pool while yelling out "JUMANJI!" Isn't that what everyone does when they go swimming? No? So it is just me? Figures. Nothing I do is normal. I swam across the pool to Jenny Reck and she gave me the finger, which is normal between us even though I am not a smug ass bastard like those dolphins. The second order of business was to hang out in the oversized hot tub. It seemed like we were the only guests at the hotel, but that could be attributed to the fact that it was after 10pm. But judging by the amount of cars in the parking lot, pretty much were the only people here. So it was great to have the entire pool area to ourselves to be loud, put on music and not have to watch our language or gestures in front of the kids. I enjoyed that.
