New York City Spring Break - Day 2

We couldn't get enough of New York City pizza. It didn't matter if we were hungry or if we just ate, NYC pizza always hit the spot. This time around, Jenny got an all-veggie pizza (complete with tomatoes and broccoli) and I got an everything pizza (complete with, well everything.) I wish that there was a way that we could get some NYC pizza here in Wisconsin, but maybe this is my chance to succeed in life by opening a pizza restaurant that offers NYC pizza cooked, prepared and served in the exact same style as the pizza places out here. I could make it a family joint; get Jenny and James with their business knowledge to run it, Tim with his pizza cooking skills, my Mom with her people skills and me with my Communication degree to advertise and talk the world about it. Reck Family pizza will be the biggest pizza joint of all time.

I first watched Ghostbusters when I was about 6 years old, and I've been hooked ever since. Sure, for the first few years I was terrified of the scary dog-like creatures and was haunted by them in my dreams until I was 12, but I got over it and am only scared of them when I watch the movie. I wanted to go inside and see if the pole still works then ask if I could stay here, tonight, sleep here - you know, to check it out. But since it is a working firehouse, they don't allow obsessed fan boys to poke around inside. I guess I didn't mind, because the interiors were filmed in Los Angeles so I wouldn't recognize anything.

We then took the subway down to Ground Zero to see this area in person. The first picture is of this church that is across the street from where the towers stood and withstood the force of the buildings coming down and still stands today. I guess it serves as a religious reminder that there are some things that they cant take away from us and God will always protect us. The second picture shows mankind's ability to persevere and recuperate from tragic events. This train and subway station recently reopened and serves as as a sign that the rebuilding is underway and we will not be defeated.

Even though it has been over 4 years, there has yet to be a permanent memorial to the thousands who perished on September 11th. Until then, these temporary boards are in place to describe all aspects of the World Trade Center and the events of September 11, 2001. In the picture on the left, a detailed timeline accompanied by pictures tells the events of the attack on the U.S. It was tough reliving the event in the place where it happened, but I would rather see that than nothing at all. I looked up at the surrounding buildings trying to imagine what it would be like to see airplanes hitting two 110 story buildings. Being right there during the tragedy would have been almost too much to handle. I can't even fathom what was going through the heads of those people as they struggled to stay alive. I only hope that I am never placed in that situation.

I have learned so much from the internet that I have forgotten what knowledge has come from books and what has come from the internet. One such thing that I learned recently is the location of the firehouse used as the headquarters for the Ghostbusters in the movies. I'm not sure if I ever have revealed this knowledge, but the original Ghostbusters in my favorite movie of all time. It has the perfect mix of action, comedy, romance, drama and sci-fi that can please anyone watching it. Now that you know that about me, being here was a dream come true. I felt just like Ray the first time that he saw this place and instantly fell in love with it. I couldn't wait to check it out.
