We were walking from the bar to Caesars Windsor Casino, which is normally a leisurely stroll through downtown. But on this night, we ran from building to building, stopping underneath every roof or overhang to catch our breath and escape the rain. Melissa and Aaron took their sweet time, mostly because they took the necessary efforts to protect themselves against the rain. I didn't mind too much, because it was only water and water dries, but this amount of rain was making me regret my decision.

The Detroit River separates Detroit and Windsor. There are two ways to cross the United States-Canada border (well technically 3 if you want to swim the river) the Ambassador Bridge or the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel. We opted for the second, mostly because I like tunnels. I like bridges too, but I think we were closer to the tunnel. When you cross you have to pay the toll and pass through customs. Apparently this is a difficult thing to do, because when the border patrol agent asked me my nationality, I said Wisconsin. Then he asked me why I was going to Canada. I said to party. It's a surprise that he let me in the country. Look out Canada. I'm here to party.

The storm that had flooded Chicago had followed us to Canada, and it was pouring rain outside. And I really mean pouring rain. Take what you would imagine the word pouring to mean then multiple it by 10. I haven't seen rain come down like that since 1998's Christian Slater action hit Hard Rain. Melissa and Aaron stopped at a convenience store for an umbrella and a poncho. I opted against both of them, because real men don't fear rain.

Canadian bars are awesome for 2 reasons - you only have to be 19 to legally drink in Canada and their domestic beers are things like Molson Canadian and Labatt Blue. Say what you want about me getting excited about girls damn near a decade younger than me, but don't you dare talk shit about Canadian beer. That stuff is wonderful. And up here you don't have to pay import prices. I could almost move up here, but I don't think I could get used to saying eh and liking hockey. Ok, so I probably could.

Oh Canada + Motown Madness - Brewers vs Tigers in Detroit

We were listening to the game on the radio, and were excited when Prince Fielder hit a 3 run homer in the 1st inning. But since Braden Looper was on the mound, those 3 runs would not be enough, as Looper gave up 7 runs in 3 2/3 innings before the rain started falling. We went to a bar to grab some beers and prayed the game would be called and we could see a doubleheader tomorrow, but after a 2 hour delay the game resumed, only to be called complete when the rains started coming down again in the 7th inning. Final score Tigers 10, Brewers 4. We were upset, but not really because we were drinking Labatt Blue in Canada. And it tasted good.
