Detroit and the United States is right across the river, which certainly must have been enticing for people in need of some booze during prohibition. For those people who could afford to come over to Canada to drink, it was no big deal. But for those stuck in the USA during our country's darkest days, they had to rely on the smugglers for their fix. Some of the smugglers and gangsters had boats to transport the booze to America, but for those who didn't have the money or were worried about the US Coast Guard and Border Patrol could crawl underneath the river through this tunnel. I peaked in there, and I figured that there was no way I could even fit in there, let alone drag some booze with me. Whomever smuggled booze over land, over sea and under land and sea must have been tiny and crazier than the battiest person on Earth.

The Heritage Center was pretty cool, but I need more than history and booze to satisfy my distillery tour thirst. Since we didn't get to walk through the factory, production, bottling or storage parts of this distillery, I would have to rank it near the bottom as far as brewery tours go. However, I will rank it up near the top of that same list for the memories that I take away from this tour, most notably the train going round the bend from the previous page. It was something to do that I normally wouldn't have done, but it was now time to get to the game.

If you've ever been to a Reck Family Christmas Party, then you know that the 1st question on the trivia is "who are the 3 founding fathers of Milwaukee?" The answer of course, is Walker, Juneau and Kilbourn. But what were their first names? I remembered Solomon Juneau and Bryon Kilbourn, but I couldn't remember what Walker's was. Aaron had me convinced that it was Hiram, and I believed him because he is smart and he majored in history. I did find it odd that the same man could have helped found Milwaukee and create this liquor empire, but I believed him because he is my best friend. He later told me that he was lying, because Walker's real first name was George, not Hiram. It wasn't the first time that he lied to me, and it most certainly wouldn't be the last. That's why I call this goofy looking guy my best friend.

We took a shuttle bus to Detroit to avoid driving and parking downtown, and we had to stop at customs. When they asked how we knew each other, Aaron said he and Melissa were engaged and I said I was the 3rd wheel. Melissa then said no, when these two are together I'm more like the 3rd wheel. Touché Meillsa.

Oh Canada + Motown Madness - Brewers vs. Tigers in Detroit

The Renaissance Center right across the river is GM's (General Motors) headquarters and a prominent building in the Detroit skyline. It's an architectural feat and commercial empire, but I just saw it as America giving a giant middle finger to Canada. Like those Rorschach images, I guess you see what you want to.
