Portland February 2015 - Day 3

We went back to Sarah's house to pick her up and spent a little time hanging outside with the river and all the creatures that feed upon it for sustenance. Jenny Reck took a selfie with this stone monster who comes alive in the darkness to steal children at night. Thankfully it was daytime, so he silently waited to rob cribs where the babies lie. We traversed the bridge across these running waters and reveled in the sound it made.

We walked from Sarah's house to this nearby tattoo parlor. We were going to get tattoos that day but the place was all booked up and didn't have any openings (it was a Saturday afternoon). It's a shame too because the place had a window painting of Jabba the Hutt. That's my kind of place. Just like this caged bunker I passed by. What are they doing in there - preparing for nuclear war? They should, because it will happen in our lifetime.

If the pictures don't do it justice, let me make it painfully obvious that it is so cool to have a house next to a stream of water. Just look at how beautiful that is! If I lived here, I would sit outside like every day and soak up the serenity. Whenever I feel like life is too difficult and I need to get centered, I head towards the nearest body of water. How amazing would it be to have that right outside my back door? I tell ya, some people have all the luck. Sarah's house was so incredibly charming and I immediately understood why she liked living here. If my roots weren't so firmly planted in the cold Wisconsin ground, I could see myself settling down in a place like this. Maybe some day... Who knows?

I think this guy Henry was one of Sarah's roommates. That or he was a random who was incredibly familiar with the surroundings. Can it be both? I'm not sure how, but let's go with that. He said that he could jump the river and I didn't believe it, so he went out to prove me wrong. And just like that, this wily kid cleared the river and climbed to the top of the charts in my book. I always give mad respect to people who do things I can't do, so well done Henry. Well done. You earned it. Then Jenny Reck tried hanging on the hammock over the water but didn't go all the way. Henry then went all Spiderman with this shit and showed off some moves that can only be seen in comic book pages or high budget CGI laden movies.

One of the things I loved about Portland is how cute it was. I'm sure that's not what they wanted me to say and I doubt they will be using that in the "Travel Portland" commercials any time soon. But all the neighborhoods had cool little houses and neat little shops. Where I come from, that's called character. I'm not saying that Milwaukee doesn't have it, but the Midwest just can't compare with the Pacific Northwest in this department. We are lacking in so many departments. But it's home. At least for the time being...
