Trip 2005 - Golden Gate Bridge

Hopefully you've been to this site often enough to recognize this as the "hero" shot. From this forced perspective camera angle, the person looks as big as the massively huge object behind them, even if the object is ginormous like the support towers of the Golden Gate Bridge. One can only imagine what it would be like to rise 746 feet above the Earth's surface and dominate a city's image.

We only walked to the first support tower, seeing as how the bridge was 1.7 miles long and we were loosing daylight by the minute. The kids hung out underneath the tower while I stood back from a distance and begged them not to jump. Sadly, the Golden Gate Bridge is a notorious site for suicides, with an average of one every 2 weeks.

Even though we had only walked about 1/3 of the way across the bridge, it seemed like it took us forever to get there. Knowing that we had to go back if we planned on retrieving our car and sleeping at our camp site, we only went that far. It would have been neat to walk the entire length and back, but we simply did not have time to do so.

Jenny and Timmy hang off of the only part of the bridge that is safe to hang off of. To hang off of any other part of the bridge would mean the possibility of plunging to certain doom. I definitely would not want to see my siblings in harm's way, because then I would have to explain to our Mom that I allowed the kids to put themselves at risk simply for the purpose of obtaining a spectacular picture.
