Afterglow 2013 - Day 6 Thursday

Mom and Jenny were hanging out in the cabin, and Mom was so cold that she felt the need to wrap herself in blankets. July should not be like this. I feel like we've been cheated. C'mon pal, we already suffered through Winter. Enough is enough!

I know for sure that Stacy raged it with me on KK this night but I can't with 100% certainty say that other people were there. If anyone else was present it would have been Tommy and no one else. I guess that's what happened this year. No more raging.

The weather had been a real asshole this year and today was no different. It was a little cold for July and it started raining again in the evening. If I wasn't so drunk and wearing a Dinosaur hat, I might have been upset. But how can you be upset when you're at Afterglow, wearing a Dinosaur's face on your head and drinking the nectar of the Gods? It's not possible. I dare you to tell me otherwise.

The rain started to come down a little harder than what I was ready to deal with, so I had to seek the cover of trees. I wanted to stay outside but unfortunately when the weather gets like this, you are more or less forced to do it. So it goes in Wisconsin...

Cabin #2 is perfect in so many ways but the most important one is that it is close enough for when you need a refill. This applies all week long but tonight we were already in the cabin, so I filled my mug and Jenny grabbed a beer and we went to the Lodge for Awards and Video night. I sat in the back row with Tommy and Jenny and together we formed a pretty ragtag peanut gallery.

Afterglow is such a beautiful place, even when it is overcast, cold and rainy. I'm 100% serious when I say that a bad day up here is better than the best day anywhere else. Seeing as how that's exactly what tonight was, I decided that I might as well embrace it. I sat out on the dock and watched the clouds roll across the lake. I wasn't even mad about the weather. How could I be?

Mom and I were in a very familiar place on Awards Night - up in front of the crowd accepting our Horseshoe Championship ribbons. Sorry if you don't like it everyone. If you don't want to see us up there anymore, then simply beat us. I dare you.

Brian was at home and Curtis and Kevin were hindered by the watchful eye of their respective partners, so we were all that was left of the rage. It was a sad moment, but then again this entire week was a series of sad moments. Better luck next year pal.

Uncle Rick was really proud of his fishing medal. And why not? He kicked those little kids' asses! Way to show them that the Kurutz's don't show mercy to anyone. I don't care how young you are! You little spuds can't best an old man with experience and a full mug of booze. Uncle Rick definitely made our family name shine a little brighter that night.

All was quiet outside. I should have figured. It was a  very tame ending to a rather tame day. We got outside, we went swimming and we raged a bit, but it was hardly memorable. And so it goes for the second last night at Afterglow. So it goes indeed...
