Afterglow 2014 - Day 4 Tuesday

But all was made good with a kid's picture. Much like the kid's table, I don't ever want to graduate from this and move on to to the next level. If there should ever be a day where I refuse to be a member of this group, please punch me square in the mouth.
After dinner we decided to take advantage of what remained of the precious daylight by going for a swim in the BP and the HT. It was only Tuesday, but somewhere in the back of our mind was the fact that we would be going home in a few short days.

Walking tacos are the best. My Mom has them every year at the Reck Christmas Party in June and we brought them back for an encore up here. Who doesn't love a self contained meal in a bag? If someone says that they don't love it, you should slap them in the face because they are a liar. I know for a fact than Brandon is a big fan and Tommy told me that he would eat one every day if he could. I was all about these walking tacos. They are the epitome of rage all day, every day. Until the wheels fall off. I love that shit.

We all got Pirate names at Afterglow this year. I believe this is the moment when Brian earned the name Blonde Beard the Destroyer. Earlier in the week he had broken the screen door at the lodge and the ladder on the HD. On this night, when the bench broke, he solidified his name as The Destroyer. Who breaks a screen door, a ladder and a bench in a matter of days? The Destroyer. That's who.

James worked at Home Deport for nearly 1/3rd of his life, so it's understandable that he wanted to open up a "do it yourself" project on this bench. Even though is is more skilled than I could ever dream to be, even he could not undo the wrath that The Destroyer hath done. So he abandoned those plans in lieu of a photo op with Maddie and Evelyn (Mark + Tina's girls). Good choice. It wasn't his job to fix the bench.

The time had come to take a picture that will stand the test of time. No matter how many years go by, we will always look the same in these pictures. They help to preserve the memories because our family is always changing. This year we welcomed Brandon up here for the first time. What would our family look like next year? Would there be another addition? Time will only tell on that one...

After the family pictures, it was time for the couples' pictures. And just like when they play a slow song at a wedding or at Butler Skateland in my youth, I slinked off to the shadows and dreamt of a better life where I had a companion by my side. Sadly it doesn't look like that day is going to come any time soon. If you were a betting man and the line was me bringing a girl to Afterglow or the field, you should place all of your earthly possessions and money on the field. It's a sure thing at this point. Change is a part of life, but I have no reason to believe that this one will stay the same. Tough luck pal.

We always set aside one night for a Kurutz/McKissick/Burgett/Reck family dinner. Over the past few years, this has evolved into a Mexican Fiesta. I don't know if it was the sombreros or if it was because Mexican food is easy to prepare, but I would like to think that we had something to do with it. We gathered at Cabin #2 for some good times with good food and some good company. Everyone was also in good sprits and a couple of the kids even wore sombreros. We had walking tacos, burritos, nachos and anything else you could think of. I'm sure a real Mexican could think of more (like enchiladas, churros or quesadillas to name a few) but we did OK.
