Afterglow 2008 - Day 5 Wednesday

Home

Tim and I decided to go out for a night on the town and check out the Vilas County nightlife. We started out in Phelps, but quickly found out that there was nothing there. What do these kids do for fun up here? Since nothing was going on in Phelps, we decided to drive the 17 miles South to Eagle River. We drove around to check out some local bars, and settled on one that was on the corner of Highway 17 called Buckshots. We have passed by here many times, but never had the courage or reason to stop in. We scared the crap out of the bartender, who was just about to close up when we sauntered in the door. She laughed at me when I tried to order a Blatz, Schlitz, PBR, or Hamms. She said that they don't serve that crap here. I instantly hated this bar. How can a bar that doesn't serve the greatest beers ever be one of my favorites? We drank our beers then headed back home.

Mom and I ended up beating Tim and Stefani. No surprise there. The best thing about it was that we were all family and that it was a nice clean game. In the end, we all had fun, which really is the point of the whole thing. I don't claim to be good at any alternative sport other than beer pong, but we really showed those kids.

James and Janelle played against Mark and his fiancée. They were playing in the pit right next to our game, so I didn't get a chance to watch a lot of their game. My money was and always is on James, but Mark ended up winning that game, and successfully knocked James out of the playoff bracket. Too bad for James.

Later that night we gathered for a celebratory Jagerbomb shot, to my surprise, we even got Mom to do one! Notably absent from this picture is Jenny, who is always down for drinking and doing shots. I wonder where she was, and why she wasn't doing a family shot.

Seeing Tommy hanging out in just a towel makes me assume that he was drying off after a swim in the big pool. If memory serves me correct (it rarely does) Tommy went for a swim after coming home from golfing in order to hold up his end of the pact.
