Afterglow 2008 - Day 5 Wednesday

We each picked a day to cook dinner for the family. I decided on Wednesday, and made a wise decision to throw a Mexican Fiesta. Jenny and I worked together to make the best darn fajitas that Afterglow has ever seen. It's been a while (since my days at UWM Restaurant Operations) when I cooked and cut vegetables, so it was great to get back into the kitchen and make the magic happen. Since I was the undisputed chef of the evening, I set aside Scott's private reserve of chicken for my own fajita. Nothing but the best for me. While I was cooking, I made sure to listen to some excellent music and drink plenty of beers. That's how I roll when I'm in the kitchen.

We sat outside to eat, and the air was filled with Mexican styled music courtesy of my iPod. We set out chips and salsa, and I prepared some Margaritas for everyone. We tried to get slushy ones, but they never froze so we had to drink them on the rocks. They were delicious, and thanks goes out to Jenny for assisting with the fabulous dinner. I couldn't have done it without her.

After dinner had settled in, I was in a fiesta mood, so we took the party over to the horseshoe pits to play some horseshoes. I had my margarita in tow, and I wish that a Mariachi band could follow me around, but unfortunately you can't find a good Mariachi band in Phelps. So we played without music. But that didn't matter, because every year I partner with my Mom to dominate the other teams and show them that the Recks can toss shoes like no other. We were matched up against Timmy and Stefani in round one, and we took care of them.

Kevin was once again rocking the Marvel...ous Bar Mitzvah t-shirt, and it made me laugh for two reasons. First, he never attended David's Bar Mitzvah, and second, Batman and Superman are from DC Comics, not Marvel. Whomever created this t-shirt really did not know their comics. Dumbasses. They should stick to planning Bar Mitzvahs; it sounds like everyone had a marvel...ous time.

Tim normally plays with Susie, but for some reason (my memory fails me) he played with Stefani this year. They were a decent team, but they were just outmatched my my Mom's attention to detail and my drunken and erratic horseshoe throwing. My Mom is steady and true, and I end up being an extreme wildcard in this event. If I stand steady long enough to throw a decent shoe, then we are unbeatable. Unfortunately, i'm usually drunk when we play, so we just narrowly beat Timmy and Stefani. It was a little too close for comfort.
