Afterglow 2010 - Day 5 Wednesday

Some kid on the beach was playing around with a giant inflatable -f'd up scary looking fish. Seriously, what kind of mother would buy their kid something this messed up? Hey son, why don't you go out and play with this toy that will probably give you nightmares. My goodness.

Some people get dominated by their fears and let them run their lives. Instead of being that guy, I chose to dominate the shit out of my fear of the scary fish by riding him like Brian's bike before the ghostride. But my plan backfired and I found out that the fish liked it. My goodness.

Tim saw the scary fish helplessly floating out to sea (a fish that can't swim, isn't that weird?) so he swam out to rescue it. Or at least that's what I thought he was doing. He rescued the fish all right, but it was for selfish reasons - he too wanted to ride the fish to eradicate his fears.

Kevin saw me having such a good time with the scary fish that he had to try this one out for himself. So he climbed on and had the ride of his life. Since everyone had now conquered their fears, we were free to hang out with the scary fish to laugh and think of memories past.

But Timmy has an intense deep-rooted fear about creatures from the sea, so his fear could only be conquered by dominating the creature while it was in the water. Like all people, at first he thought that he could go on this journey alone. But then he realized that he needed the support of his family if he were to destroy his inner demons. We have been by his side since he was born, and we weren't about to leave him in his time of need.

And like everyone trying to kick their demons, he stumbled along the way and even fell a couple of times. But his family was right there, picking him up and encouraging him to try again. And although times were tough and sometimes he was under water, he tried again.

Support from the immediate family was not enough, so then Uncle Rick put one hand on the fish to steady it while holding on to his mug with the other hand. Now that's dedication and loyalty to both Timmy and his giant mug of booze. My family members are so amazing.

Even though he had 4 people holding on for support, Timmy is so afraid of creatures from the sea that it just wasn't enough. We did our part and took him 99% of the way, but he would have to take the last step, overcome his fear and shout "I AM NOT AFRAID!!!"

And just like that his fear was gone. He climbed on top of the scary fish and his family yelled out in jubilation. He has done it! And now we could all happily move on with our lives and put this ugly debacle behind us. Family 3, big inflatable scary fish 0. Scoreboard!!

Now that the fears have subsided the healing can begin... for everyone except the scary fish. His fears of humans riding him were just beginning because no one was afraid of him anymore. Tommy took advantage of this and it was the 1st time something feared him.

Once Timmy finally got all up on the fish you couldn't keep him off of that thing. I know I've wasted your time on this page tying the fish to the psyche of fears and the subconscious. That's only because I don't remember any of this and I had to bullshit in order to fill the space.
