South Carolina 2012 with Matt - Day 2

Every city has its' quirks and landmarks and Charleston certainly had her share of them from the USS Yorktown to the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge. I'm sure there is a lot of fine things to do in this town but we just didn't have the time. It's a real shame because I could have spent the entire weekend just exploring this joint. But Matt and I both knew that the real reason we were down here was to visit our siblings so we had no choice but to abandon this town and head out to Columbia. But although my stay here was brief I couldn't help but be enamored with this East Coast gem. I love Charleston and I will definitely be back someday. It's good for morale. Real good.

There are a couple of fountains in Milwaukee and I've been in them but I did it illegally. That's why Milwaukee is a backwards thinking city. Kids of all ages love to play in the water and they will do it whether or not you allow it. So why not tell them to go ahead and do it at their own risk? When I was in Kansas City I played in their fountains and I'm happy to add Charleston to the list of friendly cities for fountain enthusiasts.

We were walking along the waterfront and we could see some nearby islands and the USS Yorktown that is permanently docked in the harbor. Apparently this aircraft carrier is a tourable museum as well as a National Historic Monument. We talked to an older man who was also visiting Charleston and he highly recommended visiting it but we would have to put that off until next time. We only had about half a day in this fine city so there was no way we could have done that. But we will be back again. Oh yes. We will be back again.

There was a lot of cool stuff to look at including some plaques that showed the landscape of this area of Charleston by the century as it was modernized. While that may be cool for historical buffs I was more interested in the fountains. Thankfully Matt was on board with this idea and we emptied our pockets and danced around in the water jets like a couple of little kids. Above all things it was great to have a day off of work to do just about anything that we wanted. And today we wanted to frolic in the aquatic wonders that the great city of Charleston had to offer. Life was good. Life was really good. Every now and then it is good to get a reminder of that.
