Afterglow RFT VIII: Before It's Too Late - Day 2

Since I arrived after midnight, there was a moment where I considered staying up all night to watch the sun rise and Ride at Dawn. But then I thought like a rational person and decided I needed some sleep if I was to fully enjoy my one true day at Afterglow. Luckily I don't sleep well and after a few hours of rest, I was awake early enough and got a chance to ride at dawn. There really is nothing like an Afterglow sunrise.

There's this well known saying that you can't be drunk all day if you don't drink beer in the morning. Since today was Labor Day and I work hard for my money, I deserved a vacation day to spend it however I pleased. OK, so I don't work hard for the money, but the Government gave me today off so I was going to enjoy it. And what better place to do it than Afterglow? There's no place in the World that I would rather be.

Now that the morning has passed and the sun was high in the sky behind the clouds, it was time to get to the real reason why I came here - to do some swimming in the best damn swimming hole on God's Green Earth. The weather is questionable in September up here, but that has never stopped me from going in the water. I'm not sure how much time I spent out in the deep end or on the raft, but time doesn't matter at Afterglow. That is one of many reasons why I love it here and take advantage of every opportunity to come back. There will come a day when I run out of chances to do this, which is why I subtitled RFT VIII as "Before It's Too Late." Because one of these days, it will be too late for another adventure.

There comes a time to leave the water and do something else. In the offseason when it is colder and I am alone, that time comes sooner rather than later. I walked back to the cabin and stopped at our dock to take a few pictures. Even though it is cloudy and the colors are muted, it is still the most beautiful place in the World to me. I know I've said it a million times, but I'll keep saying it - this is the only place that I want to be.
