Afterglow 2015 - Day 2 Sunday

Memory Point is a very short walk from Cabin #2, but I was in no position to turn around and head back home. I was equipped with rage, some coffee and my audiobook. There wasn't too much going on this morning, so I knew that I could spend as much time as I needed out here. This was more amazing than I can put into words. I needed this. And it was right there waiting for me.
Last night was an absolute mess. I woke up and my room was a complete disaster. What happened? Well I wasn't going to stick around and find out. I made some coffee and put it in a traveler and ventured out into the World. And what a spectacular World it was right outside my doorstep. I first ventured outside to the Cabin #2 pier and then walked down to the beach. I had just started an audiobook "Ready Player One" by Ernest Cline. A few minutes in and I was already hooked. My explanation cannot do it justice. If you are a fan of sci-fi, the 80's, pop culture and everything amazing, I strongly recommend that you check it out. Be it in book or audio form.

You know that it is a good weather day when the Moms go swimming. They didn't sign a pact, so they only go swimming on the days when Mother Nature provides ideal conditions.

Uncle Rick was enjoying his time in the lake. And why shouldn't he? If you would survey 100 people who have visited Afterglow sometime in their past and asked them, "Where is the greatest place to go?" 95% of them would say Afterglow. Then you further whittle down those responses and find out that their favorite part about Afterglow is the lake herself. Some other Randoms were out on a sailboat that day. While I didn't get their names, I do have authorization to speak for them. They were enjoying this day.

Today seemed like the perfect day for a walk around the lake. As you can see from the pictures, it was a beautiful day. From the moment I awoke, I knew that I had to make a voyage out to Memory Point and check on Timmy. It's too hard to do it on the first day, but if I waited any longer I would feel bad about delaying the inevitable. Timmy was just as I left him back in May, although the surroundings have certainly gotten a lot greener. I love the RFT Adventures, but Afterglow looks so much more beautiful in July.

By the time I had made it to the far side of the lake, it was getting quite warm out. Summer was finally here. And so were the bugs. I had taken off my shirt somewhere down the trail and these tiny critters were eating me alive. As long as I kept moving they weren't a problem. But you know what was a problem? When my half-naked body destroyed the day of a nice woman going for a morning jog.

Sooner rather than later, we gather in the beach area to head out for a swim. The usual characters are there and we enjoy each other's company with grand flourish. There is room for all of us at this bountiful feast and the maker accepts everyone no matter their gender, race, creed or other aspect society uses to segregate us. Afterglow Lake does not contain these boundaries. All are welcome.

These two are meant for each other. I knew it then and I know it now more than ever. They are life partners to the fullest extent. If I get a chance to capture these beasts in the wild, I'll do it.

In my head I imagine that there are people viewing this site for the first time, so I feel the need to explain certain things. So this is for you newbies - one of the greatest Afterglow traditions for me is a behind-the-back game of pool with Kevin. I could search through the archives for when this tradition started, but I feel like that is Stacy's job. All I know is that we had to keep this going for another year and that it didn't matter who won or who lost. All that matters is that we didn't end this tradition. It will live on until we no longer do.
