Afterglow 2015 - Day 3 Monday

I vowed to walk around the lake every morning so that I could get my steps in (I have a daily goal of 8,500 steps and the tracker is on my phone) and I figured this would be a good time to continue "Ready Player One". I made it about a 1/4th of the way around the lake before the bugs were just too bad to continue. That's one of things about being outdoors - it just bites (literally! HA!).
Everything is mostly carbs (pasta, casseroles and bread based foods) and various types of meat, so we tend to pass out in a little food coma after the meal. Of course even if we didn't stuff ourselves silly with casseroles and THAT MEAT!!!, we probably would settle in for a little nap right about now. This was Day 3 and we had been raging pretty hard since we got up. You gotta nap AND rally.

When I got back to the beach I found that it was a beautiful day. Apparently the bugs stuck to the woods, which was good news for my companions out on the raft. I saw tons of kids out there and had to zoom in to see Jenny Reck and Santa Kevin mingling with the Afterglow Youth. It's OK in my book though because they were mingling with kids and not the help. Wait.. what!?! That is not OK!!

Eventually I had to get out there with those banshees. It's damn near impossible to keep me out of the waters of Lake Afterglow. And why should I? Afterglow is all about raging all day, every day. We all make up our own definition of rage. Mine is making the most of every day and enjoying life to the fullest. I do that from sunup to sundown here. And I couldn't pick a more perfect bunch to do it with.

After the rage fest that was Saturday and Sunday, apparently we eased back on the throttle today. That's OK though because all days can't be complete chaos. There needs to be a balance in life. Before we knew it, the time had come for the Pot Luck Dinner, so we gathered down by the lake. This is one of the best times of the week because the entire resort is in the same place at the same time. Everyone has their own agenda up here (as they should) but tonight gives us a true sense of community. At the end of the day we are all up here to do the same thing - enjoy this beautiful place in the way that we see fit. And as long as Pete and Gail keep welcoming us back with open arms (while we open our checkbooks), we will keep coming back year after year for many more moments like these.
Gail was there to MC the Potluck Dinner ceremonies as she has done, well, since before I was born. She does more than ring a bell folks. She's the heart and soul of Afterglow and keeps this well oiled machine running. I'm honored to be her guest tonight.

There's a lot going on here. Some would say too much. Brian Kurutz / BK3 / Blondebeard the Destroyer is a calculated mess. It's a bit much for first timers to take in, so I feel like I can spare you some growing pains if you don't know him - just go with it.

There are a lot of people in the families that stay at the resort, so everyone brings plenty of food to pass. That's a good thing for growing boys like us who need to become big and strong.

The best part about the Pot Luck Dinner is the varying food items... I mean spending time with your family and cabin mates. Nah. Who am I kidding. I love the food. That's pretty evident.
